About Us

Longhorn Robotics was founded in the heart of Silicon Valley at Leigh High School in San Jose, CA. Since our founding in 2017 as a student run club, we have had the mission to educate and engage all students interested in STEM, robotics, and more. From that mission, we now stand with over 40 members across a learning team and a competition team.

This year we are especially proud of our creation of these two separate teams which furthers our mission. The learning team will approach the same prompt that FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) provides at the start of the season. They will gain experience in robotics, preparing them for their time on the competition team; meanwhile, the competition team assembles a robot in record time ready to compete in tournaments across California.

Mission Statement

Team 13274 strives to create change among our community by educating and engaging students of all backgrounds in robotic, STEM, leadership. Through this we hope to create the next generation of innovators, inventors, engineers, and leaders that better our soiety as a whole.

Engineering

The engineering team builds, designs, codes and tests our robot. We use parts from suppliers such as goBilda and REV. Initially, the robot is designed through CAD software; we primiarily use Autodesk Fusion 360. Custom parts, after designed on CAD, are 3D printed. The robot is coded for autonomous & driver controlled periods. Java is the main language used, and we use Android Studio.

Outreach

The outreach team takes care of sponsorships, fundraisers, and events. Every year, outreach has the task of preseason planning for both events and budgeting. During the season, the outreach team will carry out their plans for sponsorships and events. Beyond that, they hold events that furthers our mission statement and manage our Instagram page.

Notebook

The notebook team documents our entire team throughout the year from build to code to outreach. Everything that the team does is thoroughly documented in the engineering notebook with pictures and descriptions. They also have the responsibility of preparing all submission items at competitions.
